This controller is still the main controller in the process industries, although the hardware has changed from the stand analog/digital alone controller to distributed control systems (DCS) or programmable logic controller (PLC). The success of the PID controller relies on its simple algorithm but produces high control performances even for different application areas in industries. One main interesting feature of the PID controller is its ability to receive enhancement without any major changes in its basic algorithm form. Therefore the PID controller can be enhanced without replacing the controller itself. To achieve enhancements, it requires additional process insight, which is developed through increased engineering analysis and effort. The additional effort can be richly rewarded because the enhancement can substantially improve control performance, reducing the integral errors and maximum deviation. The success of the enhancement depends on the quality of the engineering analysis: the accuracy of process insight and the application of the design principles. In this training program, it will be discussed and covered the enhancement of the PID controller which is known as Advanced Process Control. This training is not similar to Process Control that covers PID algorithm and the well known tuning methods: Trial error, Ziegler-Nicholls and Cohen-Coon. However, Advanced Process Control covers material where that well known tuning methods fail to satisfy the required high performance for complex process control. The first standard (originally called simply the OPC Specification and now called the Data Access Specification) resulted from the collaboration of a number of leading worldwide automation suppliers working in cooperation with Microsoft. Originally based on Microsoft's OLE COM (component object model) and DCOM (distributed component object model) technologies, the specification defined a standard set of objects, interfaces and methods for use in process control and manufacturing automation applications to facilitate interoperability. The COM/DCOM technologies provided the framework for software products to be developed. There are now hundreds of OPC Data Access servers and clients available. RECOMMENDED PARTICIPANTSThis workshop that introduces managers, electrician engineers and technicians to the latest standards and practices in the OLE process Control THE BENEFITThe benefit to the software suppliers was the ability to reduce their expenditures for connectivity and focus them on the core features of the software. For the users, the benefit was flexibility. They don't have to create and pay for a custom interface. OPC interface products are built once and reused many times; therefore, they undergo continuous quality control and improvement. However, in the present, the focal points have changed. In the past, integration considered the different levels in the automation process where in the lowest level sensors and actuators communicate with a controller. Communication for the different levels was solved separately using the well known communication protocols. Now there are quite different demands. From underneath field devices with more intelligence, stand alone production equipment and other automation parts need to communicate large quantities of data in fast and deterministic fashion. From the top level (management level), the demands are production planning and control integration, quality management, traceability, maintenance systems and others. There is a need to integrate everything from sensors to the board of directors, from remote plants to local operator station, etc. This calls for a better communication. Recently, Industrial Ethernet provide that field buses do not already offer, such as: integration to the office world, more bandwidth and bigger data package for communication, faster real time communication, homogenous networking mostly using Ethernet, integration of existing field buses, and many more. These properties have motivated to introduce Industrial Ethernet solution. In this training program, we have designed a course that will show participants the advantage of industrial Ethernet technology, architecture/ topology, the needed software, the integration of existing field buses, the application, etc. DESCRIPTIONGives the communication principle and application.
